The Inflation Reduction Act created $422 billion in clean energy and climate investments – the largest investment in our history.
These federal investments were allocated by Congress to help Wisconsin realize our climate goals, cut greenhouse gas pollution, curb impacts to our health, advance environmental justice and create clean energy jobs right here in our state. What is the Inflation Reduction Act?
The Inflation Reduction Act allocated $422 billion in climate and clean energy investments to drive job creation, innovation and slashing climate pollution. The landmark climate law included tax credits for weatherization improvements, clean energy, electric vehicles, and new appliances that will lower energy bills.

Upgrading the U.S. electrical grid so it is able to handle much greater use, save money, deliver more electricity from clean energy sources, and be more reliable during extreme weather.
Creating new, well-paying jobs and expanding job training in clean energy industries for a range of workers, from scientists and engineers to electricians and carpenters.
Providing incentives to businesses and consumers that significantly reduce the cost of clean energy technologies that save them money and reduce pollution.
Expanding and speeding up the transition to clean energy sources and ensuring that clean energy technologies will be developed and manufactured in the United States.
While some federal funds are still available, several key IRA program funds remain frozen. This includes the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund’s National Clean Investment Fund and Clean Communities Investment Accelerator programs, with funds housed at Citibank. In addition, the Department of Justice has opened an investigation on the nonprofit recipients of the funds, who have in turn filed lawsuits against Citibank and EPA.
